A quick post to share with you how I get in my daily bible reading. I was never a daily bible reader before I discovered The Bible Recap.
I know there are lots of daily reading programs out there. What I love about the Bible Recap is that the readings are in chronological order. I have tried the daily reading of a Psalm, Proverb, Old Testament passage, and New Testamen passage. Honestly, I never finished those reading programs.
The first time I did the Bible Recap, it took me WAY over a year. So, I encourage you, don't quit because you're "not on track." If you're reading the bible more than you were, you are on track. I really think that even though it was long, just making it through the whole bible that first time, made me more hungry for knowledge and wisdom and committing the text/stories to memory that now, I am (for the most part) keeping up with daily reading.
Another thing to encourage you and keep you from quitting... you're gonna zone out. It happens to us all. I used to go back and re-read those parts in an effort to comprehend, many times to just zone out again and I would end up so frustrated with myself. Now, I'm over it. I have realized that sometimes the bible is boring. Did I say the quiet part outloud? Sometimes, I just have so much on my mind, I can't focus. BUT, I no longer get discouraged if I zone out. I keep going knowing that I will read those passages again, eventually.
PLUS... that's where the fabulous Tara-Leigh Cobble helps me immensely. She provides amazing commentary on every reading that summarizes those things you may have zoned out on and beyond that gives amazing historical context as well as how this all applies to us today as followers of Jesus.
I have found that my comprehension grew leaps and bounds when I started listening to an audio version of the bible as I follow along with a print version. I just use the YouVersion Bible app to play the audio. I prefer to follow along in my actual physical bible, but it's very handy to just follow along in the app. They even highlight the text as it is read to you.
After I listen/read, then I listen to the Bible Recap podcast. I prefer the audio commentary, but some might prefer print which you can find on the website.
I wish I would have had my act together a couple days ago, because the Recap plan just started the New Testament which is a great place to "jump in" if you'd like to get started.
But, I invite you now, friends, to start reading and re-capping! Just get in the Word, and start understanding the context (learning the context is life changing!).
